APPLICATIONS

Cladding

Using high power fiber lasers in cladding leads to increased functionality, extends the lifetime or restores damage of processed parts. Lasers act as a heat source during the process where a protective metal coating (like tungsten carbide) is applied onto a processed surface.

Depending on material used, applied coating can enhance:

  • corrosion
  • wear resistance
  • abrasion

This process is widely used to extend lifetime of worn parts in machinery industry. It can be combined with a laser cleaning techniques for increased adhesion and reduced porosity. Due to a high stability of Everfoton fiber lasers, the process is consistent and repeatable and can be easily automated.
