Fiber pigtail is a single, tight- or loose buffered, optical fiber terminated with an optical connector on one end and a length of exposed fiber on another. Fiber patchcord is a fiber optic cable with connectors on both ends. Pigtails and patchcords can be terminated with different kinds of connectors according to the specific needs and applications:

The assemblies can also be terminated with a ferrule without a connector.
